Content Management

I’ve been doing web development for so long, I actually remember back when the first web content management systems hit the streets. They could cost big companies $100,000 and six months to implement. Microsoft has a CMS Server product that was (and probably still is) ridiculously expensive. One of my favorite companies from that era was Red Dot, which took a novel approach of interspersing red dots where you were able to administer content.

In recent years, I’ve implemented Typo, Mephisto, and Radiant for Rails (some argue that Ruby on Rails itself is a CMS). I’ve also implemented Wordpress (as have 95% of all web developers).

In the dark ages (2001) my programmers built custom CMS using Active Server Pages. Two of these monstrosities are actually still in use today for clients that I still support.
